5 Ton Air-cooled Chiller (Portable)

In the chiller industry the term “portable” refers to a chiller that includes a refrigeration circuit, a chiller tank, an evaporator, and a single or dual pump, all within a single footprint, not its mobility.

The 5 Ton model ACWC-60-Q is a portable air-cooled water chiller which includes a single stage hermetic scroll compressor to provide cooling capacity of 60,000 BTU/Hr. with a leaving fluid temperature of 50°F in 95°F ambient air temperature. The chiller system uses an R410A refrigerant which is environmentally friendly and non-ozone depleting.

The unit weighs approximately 650 lbs. in total with dimensions of 50 ½” L x 38 ½” W x 57” H.

Standard Features

Controls: The unit comes standard with an electronic programmed temperature controller with constant (set point & process) temperature readout.

Refrigeration Components: Efficient scroll compressors, balanced port expansion valves, sight glass/moisture indicators, pump down valves, filter drier, fan cycling head pressure controls.

Process Fluid Components: Bronze “Y” strainer with 20 mesh stainless steel screen. Pumps are stainless steel centrifugal. Tanks are insulated with shoe box lid, fill port, and level sight glass. Portable systems will include a bypass flow valve.

Safety Controls: High and low refrigerant pressure, high and low fluid temperature, low water flow, thermal overloads for compressor and fan motors, safety fuses or overloads for pump.

Construction: Welded steel powder coated frame and full metal cabinet, copper piping connections.

Warranty: One year for parts / five year for the compressor.

5 Ton Air-cooled Chiller (Stationary)

The term “stationary” is used to describe a chiller that does not include a pump or a tank. One reason why a stationary chiller is used might be that an external tank can be of a larger capacity than what could be used if integrated into the chiller. A larger capacity external tank can accept a higher temperature returning fluid from the process without affecting the performance of the chiller. 

The chiller can be located close or far away from the external tank and pump. In both scenarios separate power connections are used for the chiller and pump – tank assembly. Cold Shot Chillers provides an interface to remotely turn the chiller on and off which can be tied to the pump – tank assembly to prevent the chiller when not in cooling mode.

Cold Shot Chillers 5 Ton stationary model ACWC-60-QST air-cooled water chiller includes a hermetic scroll compressor and R410A refrigerant for effective and reliable cooling. A stainless-steel copper brazed plated evaporator is used to exchange heat effectively and reliably from your process.

The unit weighs approximately 600 lbs. in total with dimensions of 50 ½” L x 38 ½” W x 57” H.

5 Ton Air-cooled Chiller (Reverse Flow)

A “reverse flow” portable chiller does not include a tank but does include a pump. A chiller that is configured with a reverse flow design is typically located near the external tank containing heat transfer fluid or water. Field plumbing is required to plumb the connections between the chiller and the tank to provide a path for the fluid to be drawn into the chiller and return to the chiller or out to the process.   

Cold Shot Chillers model ACWC-60-QRF utilizes an energy efficient hermetic scroll compressor. These types of compressors run quieter and smoother compared to reciprocating compressors.  This unit uses and environmentally conscious hydrochlorofluorocarbon R410A refrigerant.

This chiller is considered industrial grade quality to provide many years of dependable and reliable performance. The unit weighs approximately 550lbs in total with dimensions of 50 ½” L x 38 ½” W x 57” H.

5 Ton Water-cooled Units (Portable)

Cold Shot Chillers model WCWC-60-Q is a water-cooled water chiller configured in a portable design. Portable means that the chiller include a pump, tank, and refrigeration circuit to provide the closest thing to plug and play as it gets. Simply connect power, the condensing water lines, and heat transfer fluid lines to your process and your ready go!

Heat that is transferred from your process back to the chiller is transferred though the evaporator through the refrigerant circuit to a water-cooled condenser. The heated fluid traveling through the condenser is transferred to, in many cases, to a cooling tower, geothermal, or large building chiller system.

This unit uses a hermetically sealed scroll compressor which offers a smooth and quiet operation. This is important when operating the chiller indoors. R-410A refrigerant is used due to its environmentally friendly properties. It is also a common refrigerant widely used in residential and commercial applications.

The WCWC-60-Q chiller weighs 500 lbs. and has dimensions of 42” L x 30” W x 53” H. The chiller is usually located indoors in a mechanical room or near the process it is cooling.

5 Ton Water-cooled Chillers (Reverse Flow)

A “reverse flow” water-cooled water chiller includes a stainless-steel centrifugal pump with fluid connections to an external tank. The process tank is generally open to atmosphere such as one with vented top or a trough. The fluid contained in the tank is pumped through the stainless-steel copper brazed evaporator of the chiller. The chilled fluid leaving the chiller is pumped to the facility to be consumed or back to the tank to maintain a predetermined tank temperature.  

A water-cooled water chiller requires an external water to remove heat from the condenser. This is typically accomplished by using a cooling tower, geothermal, or other water source. The chiller runs at it most optimum conditions with incoming condensing water temperature of 85°F or less.

The water-cooled water chiller is normally mounted indoors and generally near the process tank it is cooling. This unit has a compact foot-print of 42” L x 30” W x 53” H. The unit weighs approximately 500 lbs.
